The reason for their first colours of blue and white is unknown but
subsequent kits were derived from the city of Leeds coat of arms which were
blue and gold. The change back to blue and white stripes occurred after the
Chairman of Huddersfield Town left to set up Leeds United. In 1920 he
brought in as manager from Huddersfield, Arthur Fairclough, who was
allegedly owed money by his previous club and determined that the new Leeds
club would replace Huddersfield as the senior club in Yorkshire, including
the adoption of their colours! The matter ended amicably and Leeds later
reverted to a number of distinctive blue and gold strips.
The change to an all white strip occurred after the arrival of Don Revie as
Manager in 1961 who wanted to copy the success of Real Madrid.
