It is suggested that many teams in the area started playing in dark blue jerseys; so when a group of friends formed the Rangers Club they commenced playing in light blue shirts which became firmly associated with the Club after the 1877 Cup Final. Rangers took their stronger opponents and clear favourites, Vale of Leven, to two replays and earned the nickname of
the 'light and speedy blues'. After twice changing to blue and white hoops, blue shirts were introduced after the first World War with which colour the Club has steadfastly remained.
Their shirt crest now embodies 5 stars representing a star for each of the
10 Championships they have won.
Research was carried out in conjunction with the Club.
